Marquees

At Army Tents we take a pride and interest in the practicality and history of marquees. Since its humble beginnings in the military the marquee has since proven itself as the mainstay of festivals and events the world wide.

Marquee tents are made up of interchangeable sections, this makes them ideal for expansion to larger sizes and different shapes. Marquees we have on sale can be ordered in a variety of colours, such as green, but white is usually the most fashionable colour. Skylights are also sometimes built into the roof fabric of the marquee; this lets a greater amount of light into the marquee and is prefered when walls are being attached. Marquee walls can also be supplied with clear vinyl windows in them.

The basic construction of a marquee is similar throughout each design. The square sides are formed from poles about 6 feet tall. The marquees sides can then be open or closed; making marquees versatile enough for their many applications. Even in modern steel framed marquees this basic principal hasn’t changed with sides being slid on through runners within the marquees framework.

The centre pole of the marquee is where the strength lies and in traditional marquees these will be large, thick and wooden. When the canvas is tense across the centre poll and side polls and the guy ropes are in place, the marquee forms a very solid square structure which great rigidity, making the marquee one of the most practical items we sell.
